The book was fantastic the first 3/4 of the way. I absolutely loved it, was flipping through the pages hungrily. I even enjoyed the angst behind the blow up after he discovered who she was. We can feel the chemistry between Mac and Rex undeniably! It's there, sizzling hot, and you absolutely love the journey and your heart aches for Rex.

And then... it took a nosedive straight after that.

I am very gutted that Gia turned into a weak character. I'm not talking a little weak either. I'm talking full blown dependent on another man kind of weak. The kind that resorted to drugs and screwed a man she loathed to get what she "needed." Yet if it was something she depended on and "needed" then her road to recovery was practically non-existent after her overdose. I was little interested after that. I skimmed through the pages until the end.

I know I'm in the minority, and that's fine. I do love dark reads. I love when characters overcome huge obstacles like abuse/drugs/alcohol etc. I was just under the impression that Gia was a lot stronger and would have tried to start over somewhere else instead of turning to something that was so unlike her.

Oh well. I will definitely be reading more of this series, though. This was my first book from Salsbury and I think her writing flows beautifully.

Living in a world that seems at times unfocused, haunted by nightmares that want let him sleep, Rex Carter finds himself using violence as an outlet for his frustrations. To all appearances he is a successful MMA fighter, musician and great guy. So what if he is controlled by his hair-triggered temper and reacts without much provocation. He has it under control, right. He just wishes he could remember his past and understand his dreams! When she walks into his life, he wonders if she could be his cure.

Her soul purpose is vengeance against those that hurt him. She needs to redeem herself from the guilt of not saving him. It is time she faced her past and found a way to be released from it. He needs to be told the truth about what happened when they were children, but he seems so well adjusted, happy. Maybe he doesn’t need old wounds to be reopened. He obviously does not remember her, so she will just watch and wait for the perfect moment to introduce herself to him. But everything changes when she gets up close and personal with Rex, maybe the past can stay dead. Maybe they can live in the future and heal each other.

This book blew me away with all the twists and turns in the plot. Just when you think you have it figured out another element is added to the story. Each character adds an extra depth and layer to the drama taking place. Love eventually triumphs over evil and that saying ‘true love conquers all’ is proven in this remarkable book. Another great addition to my library and I look forward to reading more by this outstanding author.
Since the first moment I became utterly OBSESSED with this series, I have been warned about Rex's story, and forewarned of all the bad names I'd call JB while I was reading. I wasn't prepared for just how badly my heart would get ripped my heart to shreds, begging for an EPIC happily ever after for my poor, broken, remade, beautiful boy.

I screamed. I sobbed. I cursed. I was thisclose to curling up in the fetal position on the bathroom floor at 130 in the morning because I COULDN'T STOP READING, but didn't want to wake up my children with my heaving cries. I made ugly cry faces. I cursed A LOT. I squealed. I reread parts and begged for it to be different when I read it again. Did I mention I cursed?

Then I LOVED. I felt uncontrollable feeling and emotion completely different from any of our other boys. My heart exploded in my chest for the yearning I had to crawl into the book and squeeze him tight.

I don't want to give any single detail away because when you read Rex's story, it is the epitome of the whole "true love conquers all" mentality.

Some of these reviews are a bit harsh in a lot of what they say. Mac/Gia is not weak - she's broken, and you find this out as the story progresses. She has devoted her ENTIRE LIFE to Rex, and making up for what she couldn't do when they were little. And when she is rejected, she feels as though she has absolutely nothing left to live for. Rex, on the other hand, spends the entire six months they're apart thinking about her, and going to therapy, so of course, when she is in trouble, he drops everything to go to her.

There is so much depth in the telling of this story, and the reshaping of a life felt unworthy of unconditional love and true passion.

JB, girlfriend, you are amazing. I've told you many times - you are a writing genius.
