Prince of Wolves introduces a narrative style that I wasn't sure if I was going to like or not. It's alternates between Jacque and Fane's perspectives, but instead of the story continuously moving forward, several chapters are told twice: once by Jacque and once by Fane. This of course makes the story unnecessarily longer (it's still pretty short though), but we get the full story from both sides. I thought it was going to annoy to me to have to read every situation twice, but it didn't. I actually quite liked the "he said, she said" since it's two totally different perspectives and it stopped about half way through the book.

The story is pretty fun, although it's the typical werewolf bond, soul-mate type story, where the girl has no clue what she is until she meets the sexy stranger. I don't read too many werewolf books, so it hasn't grown old for me and I was still able to enjoy it. It moves at a good pace. There always seems to be something happening, but the main conflict doesn't appear until halfway through. Jacque's friends also provide some great comic relief through out.

I have one major complaint: the dialogue is awful! Sometimes it's very stiff and formal, but I kind of expect that from Fane, since he's royalty and English isn't his first language. Coming from everyone else though, it just feels awkward. But Jacque and her friend's also use the most horrific slang! It's so outdated and irritating! I hadn't heard most of these expressions in over a decade, if I'd even heard them before at all. It was just a little over-the-top at times.

Overall, Prince of Wolves has a pretty good story, but it could greatly benefit from more editing, especially in the dialogue department. There's also some annoyance whenever Fane or his family speak Romanian. For some reason the English translation is in parentheses, but then the next paragraph will have Fane translating to the non-Romanian speakers anyway. It was fairly awkward to read. I have the next two books, so I'll be continuing the series. I just hope the writing has improved.

I am struggling to give this book two starts. but I had to since it was not all bad, I found it very slow moving. The characters were forced and could use much more character development to make them believable. The two main characters held no charisma for me. The girl came off as a teenage ditz and the boy did not peek my interest at all. The writer seemed to have used a translator with the Romanian and did nothing for the actual story. With that being said, it was a decent plot but extremely slow. I could barely make it halfway through the book when I just moved on and I absolutely love books about werewolves

I'm not planning to continue with this novel or this series. I've seen mixed reviews and even done research on later books in the series to see what people thought and I decided to read the first couple of chapters to decide whether I would continue or not. This series is just not for me- the characters are childish. The mythology and writing was focused on providing infodumps randomly submerged with everyday thoughts (which is a horrible idea). One second someone is in a limo and the next I'm reading a WHOLE freaking encyclopedia explanation on wolves in this universe. I'm sure others will love this novel to pieces, but I don't think I'll be one of them.

Basically, this is a girl meets boy, boy claims girl is his mate and then all hell breaks loose kind of story. And yes, I have read this one more than once, but only because I have this crazy need to read every book in the series again when the author adds a new book to said series, and believe me is can be a brutal cycle sometimes because I love so many really good series.

Prince of Wolves starts out The Grey Wolves series focusing most on Jacques relationship with Fane but they are only part of the core group that this story revolves around, it’s just that their romance is center stage but there is truly much more going on. As I read this first book in the series I felt like it is more of an introduction to Jacque, Fane and the other cast of characters with their unique personalities and dynamic interactive relationships, as well as the culture of the Grey wolves. There other thing about this story I find interesting is that when in comes to the Jacque and Fane the story is PG 13 but when is come to the violent action the author doesn’t pull her punches when it comes to detail. Don’t take that to mean I am disappointed by the story because the fight scene was really brutal.

I really love stories that give me a three-dimensional view of the world that the author is building. I know that writing like that can’t possibly be easy what with the attention to detail that such a feat requires for the characters and background. I have found very few authors who are capable of creating such books by maintaining the time lines of their stories and consistency of the character’s backgrounds.

The only thing I didn’t like about Prince of Wolves was the edits that I found in the book which is a contradiction to the authors attention to detail, and I realize no one is perfect but when they come up they sure do feel like an interruption and that drives me nuts, for some reason. Most of those edits were, I think, typos that could easily be fixed but add to that the chapters that had the first word or two set up as links that turned into an annoyance when my finger accidentally brushed a crossed one to turn the page and I ended up back at the beginning in the table of contents. For those reasons I am compelled to give a five-star book a three-star rating.
