I bought this due to one of the few reviews here. I believe someone stumbled across this in a bookstore or something similar? Anyway, the reviewer was so emphatic that anyone with an option to get a copy of this book should do so, that I strayed from my eBook conveniences and took the advice. I sadly finished this in less than one evening. I find this sad, because I could have read it much longer in pure contentment. I had not the willpower to slow my pace.

It was fabulous. It was magical, romantic, and it felt more genuine than many non-paranormal romances have. This is a true romance and not basic erotica. This is love and "making love" in a secluded field with sunlight and having dinner overlooking the Mediterranean with home one magical door away. The book is a wonderful mix of art, history, insecurities, values, moral dilemmas, adventure, and the characters communicate (overall), which is very refreshing. This artful work even conveys the basic truths that nothing worth having ever comes simply, and that while the world can be full of deceit and darkness, it also has a measure of purity and majestic beauty in it that we all take for granted.

Why are the best books the ones out-of-print and left to fade out over time?? If I had the money, I'd publish this myself as an eBook and in every form of paper book known! Amazon doesn't offer a cover. I may add one, but I think it may have hindered my decision to buy it, honestly. It looks much too ordinary. The only part I find that agrees with the book is the label, "More Than Men." Yep.

Our hero, Alex, is more than a man. More than a genie. He's chivalrous to the core (the root of his lot in life). He is (of course) breathtakingly handsome, wise, strong, and still very vulnerable and innocent in some ways. He savors any experiences he has when in our world, so, we often see the world through his appreciative eyes. Trees, sunshine, and even preparing dinner seem more magical than his genie parlor-tricks do.

Our heroine, Chelsey, is very strong, intelligent, and kind. She's also insecure to a fault due to a physical handicap that only Alex can make her (or even the reader, who's read it only from her perspective up to a point) see it as an attribute that enhances her appeal. He goes to great lengths to help her to see herself as he sees her.

Alex has never spent more than 12 hours at a time free to exist in our world until Chelsea requires time to make her wishes (a first amongst his many masters). The "rules" dictate he cannot be father from her than the sound of her voice can reach (in case she chooses to make a wish).

The close proximity and several experiences draw them together, and she finds herself knowing that all she REALLY wants or could ever wish for is to keep Alex. That feeling is very much mutual, which is separate from his desire to be free, but it doesn't matter.

They both know the time will come when she'll have to make her final wish. She'll have the rest of her life to mourn the loss; he'll have the rest of eternity to do the same. What good are wishes that have so many rules? They wonder how much time will be allotted to them before she'll be forced to make her final wish, which will separate them forever. Since he's never been free for longer than 12 hours before this, he has no idea what to expect. There's no way to tell when her time will be up or how much (if any) notice they'll even have to make their farewells. ((Sigh))

This book has it all, folks. The other reviewer gave sound advice, and I'm grateful for it. This book is worth much more than the $4 with shipping I paid, and I feel like ordering a collectible version just to preserve it. Its length is average, and I don't fault the book for being over so soon. I just wish I'd had more willpower to stretch it out! This is a gem, a true diamond in the rough. This is a re-read and an instant favorite.

As the other reviewer expressed, do yourself a favor, and get a copy if you can - while you still can! This is Romance at its BEST in my opinion, and even if you don't love it with the same fervor, I'm certain you won't regret any time or money spent on it either.

My wish to you is that my review has been helpful. ;) Happy Reading!

Wish And A Kiss St George 9780373165018 Books Reviews

I stumbled across this book at the local swap shop and was impressed enough to search it (and the author) out to see if they have anything else written I might like to buy. Once you get past the whole premise of a sulking genie who suddenly appears, this book quickly became a 'can't put it down' journey into paranormal romance. Chelsey's issues over her polio-weakened leg were credible, as was the strength of character she developed to compensate for it.

Alex was just ... hot. How he became a genie and why he is so contemptuous of humanity is introduced early enough into the story that it made what would otherwise be a very fantastical character credible ... especially his joy at the simple sensations of the material realms. And ... a few points in this story had me crack up laughing. And once ... I even almost cried.

Better than an average romance novel. My only complaint, as a normally sci-fi freak, is that there was no 'science of becoming a genie.' Although at least there were 'rules.' Alas ... but if the author went into the physics of genie magic ... then this wouldn't be published by Harlequin, I guess. If you're looking to bulk up on two-dozen romance novels from the 'gently used' section of using their super-saver shipping, then I'd recommend you BUY this book even though it's an older title. I'll definitely be looking to BUY other works from this author.
