You Had Me at Woof How Dogs Taught Me the Secrets of Happiness Julie Klam 9781594487767 Books Reviews

This is the best Boston Rescue book that you could ever read. Anyone who owns a Boston or Rescue will love this book. You'll laugh & cry as you go through the adventures of Julie Klam of her rescues & the dogs that she loves. I buy copies if this book to put into Boston Terrier Rescue auctions & this little book earns a lot of money for that rescue.
I laughed and I cried. At one point I swore I wasn't going to finish reading it. But, as a dog lover, I absolutely understood. Keep a box of tissues handy, but read it. The lessons are real. The love is real. You had me at woof. 💓
I loved this book, from beginning to end! What a great read! I also own a Boston, she is the sweetest gem in our life! Thanks for taking us on your adventures and thank you for saving dogs lives. I also Foster dogs, mostly bully breeds, they bring so much love into my life and when they find their forever home, its the most full filling moment!
The stories were sweet and funny, but I'm not a fan of this writing style. It was kind of all over the place with not much continuity but an easy read. If you adore Boston Terriers like I do though, this book will touch your heart! Bottom line, I cried, and I laughed, and my heart aches for the 2 Bostons I've lost! It's nice to know someone else is obsessed with this incredible breed!!
This was less a book that maybe articles strung together. I didn't like the writer as a person as she was on this journey with dogs. If these are the lessons that dogs taught her I am happy that I had dogs in my life that taught me compassion, unconditional love and the value of consistency
I always thought there might be something wrong with me, given how much I love and adore my little dog. Then I read this book and now I feel perfectly normal ) This was the most enjoyable book I've read in a long time. The author brings you along for the ride while she rescues and fosters dogs, and no matter what baggage the dog brings, she finds the eternal good in each of them. Fortunately, although he pretends to be put out by all of this, her husband is clearly supportive and instrumental in saving so many of these sweet souls.
Julie Klam talks again about some of her dog adoptions. She's a funny writer, with all kinds of stories about her life with dogs, and her life with a Boston Terrier rescue group. There's the elderly dog whom everyone expected to die very soon, but ends up having 2 puppies. And a beloved dog that gets loose in traffic. She talks about people who rescue dogs the people the dogs are rescued from. Some stories are funny, like taking out her pack of "a- holes", who would even fight geriatric dogs if given a chance, and picking up after them. Her husband steps in a mess in the house with bare feet and asks her why she can't rescue cakes instead of dogs.Other stories are sad, but this is a very good book!
I love dogs. And I really love Boston terriers. But this book seemed a bit disjointed to me. The author starts out strongly by describing the bond she forms with her first dog, Otto (even though that's a bit muddled by a too long section about her trying to learn to read her dog's mind...seriously). One minute we are in the middle of one of her stories about Otto & the next second she reveals that Otto died. She does not go into specifics other than to say it was unexpected & she was devastated. And decided she needed to buy a new dog immediately. The dog's death was given only half of a page. Then she starts fostering dogs so she begins jumping from one dog to another & she has the dogs for such a brief period of time we never really get to sense any deep relationship there. Honestly I thought this book could have been written so it was a lot more powerful.
A wonderful book, a great read. I would recommend this book to family or friends. If you love Boston Terriers, get this book. Nice reading.
